Default differnt fuel rails

Hey guys, I was recently reading the forum looking for ways to figure out why my jeep is only getting 10.5 mpg. Its a 1999 jeep cherokee and the tires are an inch or two wider, stock height. I was reading the post about fuel injectors, I decided to go with the neon 2.4 injectors, but my first step was to get a new fuel rail and replace my rusty old one. I went to the junk yard to day, went through a few jeeps, found the cleanest one, and took it out. I took one off of a 4.0 Grand Cherokee. I came home and checked it on mine, its the same, same connectors etc..except one difference. The one on mine has a round piece half way through, the one from the junk yard doesnt, included below is pictures to better show. My question is 1, what is this, and 2, can I use the one I got or do I need to go back and find one with this round thing. Thanks, Mike

unscrew the cover, its for hooking up a fuel pressure tester.

It is NOT a regulator.
96 and up have a fuel pressure regulator in the top of the fuel pump assembly.

The piece you are looking at is a dampener.

After putting it all back together, it will run like crap, but don't freak. Run it down the road and it will start to clear up. Then drive to front of the jeep on any slight incline and unscrew the round cover and place a rag under the valve, push it in and purge the air out of the fuel rail. With my new injectors, it now starts without depressing the gas peddle.
