I want to find a new axle and or differential , I hear it's easier to do a rear end swap from a junk yard that it it to replace gears. What type of rear ends can i use or look for. 89 jeep xj

What gear ratio do you have? Just make sure ratios match front to rear. Look for a Chrysler 8.25, preferably the 97-01 29 spline axle
Correct. New gears would require shims to correct the backlash and such and that requires gauges and magic. Like stated above make sure the axle gears are the same. There will be a tag on your front axle printed 3.55/3.54 or 3.73 etc. Obviously you want the replacement axle to mirror those numbers.
