i do want to build it but i have to start off with a diesel even if its just a shell because i live in CA and i wont be able to smog it. im planing on putting a TDI VW diesel in it and building custom exhaust manifold and running a bigger turbo and intercooler i just want the vin of a diesel so that way i wont have to smog it

Diesel XJ's were only sold in Europe, so they are extremely rare in the US. Only way to get one is to look hard, build one, or buy one blindly from Europe and have it shipped over.

How much building are you looking to do? A Cummins 4BT would look, sound, and perform very nice in an XJ... assuming you were able to get it running and driving.

Rustys has heavy duty coils. How much more does the 4bt weigh than the I6?

Pff, Diesel FTW. I'm hooked on that 4BT, I just might get one when my 4.0 kicks the toolbox.

Not true. They were sold here with the REnault 2.1 turbo diesel in 85 or so.
