diesel injection pump questions?
hi, i just spent 20 minutes writing a question then the goddamm internet crashes just as i hit submit and i lost my question....so here goes again.
i have a 1997 2.5 turbo diesel jeep the diesel injection pump is faulty. had it checked by 2 diesel specialists who say the pump is at fault. it sometimes cuts out when you take your foot off the gas, changing gear, slowing down ect ect.
i'm skint at the moment so i am fitting a second hand pump from another running engine. a mechanic friend is going to help me with it to save on cost but he has never done one on a cherokee before so he just asked me to find out if the injection pump is in any way effected by the immobilizer, as in will a pump from another engine run on mine with out any codes or mapping having to be changed??? or is there any tips on this job? or indeed anything i need to watch out for?
thanks in advance for any replys. noel

The injection control unit is not effected by the immobilizer. The immobilizer only cuts power to the pump, it will not effect pump timing in the least.

Could you PM me please as I have the same issue that this reply was to, would really appreciate it.
I have been told that the Fuel Injector pump on me cherokee is knackered and that a replacement one would need chipping, is that right or is there a way round it?
Any help greatly appreciated, oh yeah my car:
It is a UK 2.5TD Cherokee XJ ORVIS 2000 model.
Thanks again

hi ditchus, don't know if this reply is too late as i was away. the pump i fitted went into my 97 jeep no probs. no messing with chiping or any electronics. little tricky to fit the replacement without disturbing the timing but we did it! the second hand pump i got was 150 euros. the jeep ran a bit rough for about 10 minutes then after a drive it cleared up and is running perfect, no more cutout!!!!!. hope this helps. and thanks again every one for their help.
