Did I upgrade the ground properly as per Cruiser’s Step 1?
@cruiser54 Did I do this right? I confirmed continuity between the intake manifold heat shield bolt and the stock braided cable, removed the bolt by applying pressure with a socket and confirmed removal by checking knuckle for blood, wirebrushed the heat shield, applied deoxit to both bolts and wirebrushed them, applied Ox Gard to bolt and NAPA cable, attached cable and tightened everything down. NAPA 781116 4ga 18” cable between what I assume is the intake manifold heat shield and the firewall bolt
Rumor has it that that is a radio noise ground, thats why its a braided cable and not a big power ground cable...it cant hurt since you left the braided cable installed. . The other main grounds are from the dual ground battery connector to the fender just behind the battery and the same battery connector to the block somewhere by the distributor...can't remember at the moment but will look tomorrow. On the later models, that braided ground is attached to a head bolt/ extended stud with a nut near the back drivers side. On my 01 I added a ground from the battery connector tightening bolt to one of the screws that attach the radiator hold down bracket for no good reason

Reason: More info
@bluejeep2001 I already cleaned and applied Ox Gard to the grounds at the engine block on the firewall side of the oil dipstick if that’s what you’re referring to. My radio definitely has some static with the engine running but not with it off so maybe this will have solved it!
I cant remember where my primary power ground bolts to but will check tomorrow. Do you have 2 cables off your battery neg terminal? My earliest model was a 92 and had 2 main feeds off the neg...don't know if your earlier model is similar. I see your a "city jeeper". Im out on the island in Massapequa Pk
@bluejeep2001 Freeport! Merrick! Bellmore! Wantagh! Massapequa! Massapequa Park! I think that’s the order. I’m from LI originally (Valley Stream) but now I’m in Queens since 2008.
Someone on Reddit said that heat shield on the intake manifold is not stock. Is that correct? I’m trying to look at pictures of a 1990 engine bay. Seems pretty stock to me based on nothing at all being modded and under 100k miles.
You left out seaford...no heatshield on my 92 or 01. It's probably not very efficient to have a ground cable bigger than your primary ground bolted to a thin piece of tin. A better bet would be to attach it the place where the braided cable is bolted to
@bluejeep2001 I figured that the bolt that holds the heat shield in is attached to the intake manifold, no? It’s about a 1” bolt and the heat shield is only maybe 1/8” of an inch or so. I did a continuity test before hand and had continuity between the heat shield bolt and the firewall bolt so I figured it would be a good spot.
@cruiser54 mentions bolting it to a heat shield bolt so I figured it would be a good spot that didn’t require being torqued to spec.

Intake manifold is aluminum, you'll want bolt the additional ground to something metal like the back of the head or engine block
It goes under a heat shield attaching BOLT, which threads into the aluminum intake manifold, which is bolted to the engine block with numerous steel bolts. The new cable is in addition to the original one from the firewall to the head stud. You know the one. Always oily, hard to get to, and a difficult ground to clean?
Can we make this any more complicated?
