Default Decisions on "custom" lift

I was looking around on the internet and it seemed like everyone was torn on which lift company offered the best lift package and i thought itd be nice to piece together a lift from the various parts companies based first on reliability and then price of the part in question.

Looking on a few of the sites i noticed you need the following to get a lift taken care of.

Springs
Upper Control Arms
Lower Control Arms
Adjustable Trackbar
New Front Brake Lines
Sway Bar Disconnect
New Rear Leafs
U-Bolts
Rear Brake Lines
Shocks
Slip Yoke Eliminator

Any Suggestions on other parts need to complete the job feel free to add.

also suggestions on parts for the lift would be nice too.

This form should keep things nice and tidy

well the idea was to get people who have used the item to chime in and say things like hey we really like the Rough Country springs but the Rough country shocks ride like skateboards, which i've read more than once.

that way there'd be a bit of a place for people to look up the pros and cons of certain parts.

personal experience from users is always helpful

I see, well Its gonna get just as confusing in this thread as eveything else you read online! LOL

If you arent familiar with the search function, its up top on the right. Give it a shot and read in circles again. lol

I have sky jacker 3.5 kit I love it so far, rids a bit stiff but it was better then my 98 ram 1500.

yea i've been reading in circles like you said for the past month or so which has kept me from pulling the trigger on different lift kits and parts.

i come from a car engine tuning background where one part is usually better than the next but since im taking my turn with 4x4s i guess suspension and lift kits are more of a you gotta feel it and you gotta have certain objectives in mind with every lift kit.

i guess if i tried to get this thread done it'd end up getting very cluttered and confusing

Yes it would. If you have built before (cars/trucks/bikes whatever) you should know that you need to set certain goals. Like how much money spent, drivablility, rock crawler, mudder or what?

I'm in the process of my 3rd XJ build and again had the same issues. I wasn't really happy with any one kit. DestinationXJ has the right idea. My thoughts ran like this:

Use: Now that I'm a bit older and gotten more into camping and exploring, I want a decent DD rig that I can easily travel with and one that's still capable.

Driveability: A big concern for the above reason and it's my DD.

Budget: Working 10 months out of the year as a contractor overseas and saving like a **** has given me some leeway here.

So my conclusion is:
OME coils and small spacers in the front
OME leaves in the rear with Ironman Fab boomerangs
Bilstein 5125s all the way around
Extended brake lines
Currectlync
IRO DS Trackbar
Ironmanfab adjustable UCAs and LCAs
DPA
Goferit nutsert
JKS Discos
Bumpstops
SYE and shaft kit from IRO
IRO Almost Alloy kit
Odds and ends....

And the biggest hit I'm taking is a new HP 30 and 8.8 from Eastcoast Gears...both with new everything ...geared...and True Tracs.

Many will say...waste of money....but ehhhhh it is what it is. I've been saving and have already done the less expensive route back in 01 with my first build. I just consider it movin' on up...not better than anyone elses.

Point being...build what's right for you. There is a good chance though, that it will cost you more than a standard kit...and many may say it won't be much better......just my $.02

**...and yes I'll take my "warning" from CF like a man......sigh.....I promise to never argue with other members about lift blocks again...and I'm sorry for doing so.

well i was looking at rustys since they give a wider variety of lift options, in comparison to RC.

I was only looking at things in the 3" area

My reasoning was this, please let me know if i'm mistaken in my reasoning.

drive-ability
ability to drive in the snow
mild trail riding

You should look into a Junkyard set up. A "Bastard pack" will get you the lift you want in the rear and you can get new springs for the front to match and some used Rubicon struts. Thats my plan. Good way to build on a budget and progressively. you can run about 3" of lift with no other mods.

Call up Rustys. I just bought my 3" kit from them and was able to piece together what I wanted. I delt with Amanda, she was very nice and very helpful. Rustys will piece together a kit (with a full kit discount) per your requests. Their shipping was super fast. You will get a better shipping quote if you call them instead of ordering on line.

I have a 3.5" bastard pack lift with rusty's coils and JK shocks, I rides good for a lifted jeep and $200 is hard to beat. My only other experience was ~7" on 35's and i couldnt go above 60mph so its safe to say it didnt ride great but was just a trail rig

Things to consider even at 3.5" lift pertaining to drivability.
I had DW at first, i was able to work it out (trackbar) but still get a front end shimmy at 45+ speeds when i hit a decent bump. I'm saving up for adjustable track bar and adjustable LCA's to fix the front end geometry to make it drive better. I have about (-/+) 2-4 degrees castor which isnt too bad but might be the cause of the shimmy. The front axle is also about 1-2" to the drivers side which may be another factor.

Really depends on how much lift you want. But I hear great things about DPG off-road/OME hybrid lift..
Or more budget type.. V8 ZJ upcountry coils/extra spring isolators, Bastard pack leaf springs. YJ ( I think) brake lines for front. Whatever shocks you want.
