death wobble !
hey guys, i tried searching this 20 times but it keeps freezing my computer so i have to post a thread, basically i have a 94 cherokee, stock suspension. everytime i go above 55mph, i get the wobble, obnoxious wobble. i put it on the lift to try and check out everything under neath, but using a long crow bar pushing and tugging on all the front suspension, everything seems pretty tight. my steering shaft has alot of play due to the broken joint, could that cause it? im just so confused as to what it could be, input & opinions greatly appreciated. thank you.
Like what bruni86xj said fix that joint and upgrade the steering stablizer and track bar. Mine had the dw and I had someone turn the wheel side to side withe xj on the ground and my tb had movement thats the only way to check the tb I tried to shack it down it didnt move until I had some steer my wheels back n forth now my jeep ride like new again no more dw

No need to spend money on a fancy "upgraded" steering stabilizer. Just get a new stock one if yours is leaking. But that's not going to cause death wobble.
There are 100 things that can cause it. More common causes are track bar, worn ball joints, worn/unbalanced tires, control arm bushings, alignment being out of spec, etc.

You should never have a reason for a "bigger" or "upgraded" steering stabilizer... It's just covering up old, worn parts. If you feel yourself needin one of those steering stabilizers, I hate to say but you have bigger issues to address.

Ok well those upper control arm bushings are shot, my alignment i adjusted today so that cant be it, but yeah ill try checking the tb while on the ground and replace the steering rod joint & steering stabilizer & see if that helps any. Thanks guys ill let u know how it goes
Basically since it only happens when i go over 50mph, i stuck my head out the window to see what the wheels were doing, they were flopping left and right at a decent amount each way, does that help diagnose it ? Lol this **** is so confusing to figure out since theres 100 reason for it

Read the link I posted in post #4 of this thread. You'll be a little less confused.
And no that doesn't help narrow it down. That is just confirmation that you are actually getting death wobble.
Start with looking at the track bar. That's going to be your most likely culprit.
Your steering stabilizer is not a culprit. It's a mask. Go ahead and replace it for piece of mind. I can't tell you not to, as I did too. But just no that that didn't solve anything.
And replace your upper control arm bushings if they're that bad.
