when you say no lights, do you mean when you turn the key nothing lights up, or if you try to turn the lights on they do not turn on? If your lights turn on, it could be your starter/solenoid. Not sure what would explain why bigger vehicles could jump your xj, unless it was just coincidence. Most auto parts stores will test both your battery and starter for free. A good start at least.

yea by that i meant i meant no lights whats so ever, no dumby lights.
yea i think it coincidence. the alternator is new and when i has a civic, subaru , and a buick try it the solenoid was just ripping, but both fords and a jeep got her going

If the gen (alternator) light isnt on when it finally starts and it will start with a high amp battery jumping it, Im assuming it has something to do with grounds.
There is one at the back of the head that goes to the firewall, it is a braided strap. This sometimes goes bad, take a good look at it. take the mounting bolt out, scrape/brush the contact area to bare metal, reconnect.
Trace the battery cables and look for anything loose/dirty.
