I do know that the replaceable switch itself is probably not interchangeable as it is a Rotary Switch but that does not mean the connector is also different. ( but it may be ). Even so a technician with enough knowledge could make that work. ( that's the easy part. The part I would have problems with would be the other two, where you select Temp, and air position.

I'll pull one to look at the back of it, if it looks 'doable' I'll bring it home.

As far as ordering the switch from Advanced, I must have gotten the last one this morning. Least now I know what it would not let me order two, it said the quantity was invalid. I have two XJ's and want to replace all the components in both of them.

I was actually thinking of hard wiring the newer switch assembly in, because I doubt the connectors on the back are the same. I just don't know if they would work together. The main problem I see is that the newer blow motor controls have four speeds, the old (mine) has three.

You should be able to still do it.

You would only use three switch positions instead of four.

I have not seen one of the newer ones yet, so I am not sure about the switch configuration.

I think if you removed a newer controller from a newer XJ and also cut off the connector with a section of the harness, you *might* be able to get another connector and make an adapter pigtail of sorts so it would plug into your existing harness.

Little extra work, but might be worth it in the long run.

Get really creative and build an variable fan speed controller using a single ****, now that would be a bit of work.

Luckily the weather is getting warmer so hopefully it keeps up and I won't be in any rush to hook the heat back up. I don't use my a/c (It was r12 and needed to be converted/recharged so I just disconnected it) so all I really use the blower for is the heat and the defroster. If all works out as planned I will be pulling the climate control setup from a newer cherokee and seeing if I can wire it in this spring/summer. I've never looked that closely at the newer setups.
