a new noise... but this one worries me...

Default a new noise... but this one worries me...

whats that noise?
its a jeep. it makes noise.

too true!! but, now when im in 4wd and under acceleration, there is a noise sort of like a grinding or scraping of metal. i know i gotta check the TC for metal shavings, etc. but whats the process for checking it. i am a noob with this one. any and all help is much appreciated. thanks. also, any facts, opinions or stats are really welcomed on this one! i need info!

I would imagine you need to drain the tc fluid and check for metal there. Then try refilling it and running it.

ok. i didnt think there was a way, like with oil, to check it w/o draining it. and what if there is metal in there? obviously not good, but what would that indicate? thanks again!!

so ive been reading posts on how the TC linkage cable seems to have a tendancy to loosen and cause similar issues as im having. how easy is it to adjust the cable? photos or what have you would be sweet. i am certainly not above laying in a snow bank in the dark to try to adjust it... i just want somone to point me in the right direction.

Hey I had the same noise. Yesterday I flushed the transfer case. (just let atf flow through it for like a minute after I drained it)

once I refilled it the noise was gone. I would start with the transfer case.
