94 4.0 HO XJ, no dash lights, no tail lights, replaced the headlight switch hoping for an easy fix (not so easy playing under the dash but the new switch is in) did not fix the problem. Does not blow any fuses so I'm guessing its a ground issue. I did a search and pulled alot of useful info (love this forum) before I go and check every single ground between the batt, fuse box, switch and on down the line I was just wondering since quite a few ppl have had this problem where did you guys trace yours to?
would splicing in a new ground into the taillight wiring in the back help?

Theres a 20 amp fuse in the fusebox in the engine compartment for dash, running, license, tail and entry lights, make sure thats not blown. Mine was and it ended up being a shorted out license light bulb.

i have this problem too, but i was messing around with the dash light turning it back and forth watching my lights get brighter, then dimmer, then brighter, then black. i think my problem is the switch, if that doesn't work, i'll be right back here.

all fuses are fine, I visually inspected and checked them all with a fuse tester (including the fuses in the box behind the batt under the hood), I also replaced license plate bulb, tomorrow I'm gonna look at the rear hatch wiring. any other suggestions???

Search dashlights, park/running lights, tailights. Thats how I narrowed mine down. It took a while searching, but thats what pointed me toward my problem. Good luck.
I had an issue with mine popping the fuse for the tail lights and dash lights last year. There is an extra connector for the license plate light in the rear hatch. It is for XJs with the rear tire carrier so the plate can be mounted on the drivers side of the hatch and not be hidden behind the spare tire. When both light connectors are plugged in at the same time it creates a ground fault circuit that blows the fuse. Since yours is not blowing the fuse, it may just be a bad ground.
Here's a link to what I went through to find my issue.

Now I am going to keep digging the forum as i have other pb it appears.
