Ground discontinuity. Find grounds, detach, wire brush and apply dielectric grease to it/them. Do you own a voltmeter? (If not, then just use a 12V lamp and add wires with clips/probes.) Clip one lead to battery negative, turn on the light switch and probe the ground points until you get a 12V measurement (or the 12V lamp illuminates). If indicated (whether by voltmeter or lamp) then you have found your bad ground.

Default 4x4 indicator lights

On my 96 model, I recently noticed that my 4 wheel drive and low range indicator lights are inoperable. I even put a new switch in the mechanism with no luck. All the other lights work just fine in that pod. Any suggestions?

No power TO or FROM the 5a fuse? One side provides power and the other is the load with the fuse being the current limiting link. No power from the fuse could mean just a blown fuse. If you don't have power TO the fuse, you've found your problem. A solution could be as simple as adding an inline fuse holder with 1/4" spade connectors and going from an ACC or IGN spot in the fuse box to the load side of your 5a.
