Hey guys I haven't seen many threads about this and when I tried searching I couldn't find any help on actually doing it. I kinda just winged it. But I got red led dash lights and shifter and tcase now on my '94! Looks great! if anyone has any questions on it or wants pics just ask. Ll post some pcs and how I did it.

It was pretty easy doing the dash lights. I only needed 5 194 led bulbs. I already had the bezel piece off so all i did was unscrew the 4 screws holding in the plastic covering the gauges and pulled it off then undid the gauge cluster. Which i think there are 6 screws. then it pulls right out. Some people said they had to unhook a speedo cable. I didnt have to unhook anything. Just got my hand behind the cluster untwisted each bulb and swapped them out. Check to see that they work before you put them back in because they do go in a certain way. then put it all together again and your good to go. Your DIMMING switch will not work anymore. For the shifter iy just popped off and i swapped it. Not the tcase one was what gave me the most trouble. First, take off the plastic cover. pull hard but be careful not to snap it. then remove it (itll slide right through the handle. Then put it in 4lo (just an opinion to get the handle out of the way) and try and twist the bulb out. then swap. that gave me the most trouble because i have big hands haha. But after just put it all back together. Didnt take too long maybe 30 mins on the dash and 30 on the shifter.

 

I've been thinking of doing this, just never got the motivation to spend the money. I did put red LED's in my foot lights, looks cool but defeats the point of having them lol.

 

Didnt cost too much. 7 bucks for 5 (which i was supposed to get 10) from amazon. Had to buy the shifter ones from autozone which were 10 bucks for 2 red ones. I might do those next lol

 

Awesome! My stock light are dimming even when set to the highest setting, hopefully this helps me see the numbers better. Haha

 

Itll definetely help, Red doesnt come out to bright though. But its easier on your eyes at night and still look awesome

 

If you want some more light out of your instrument cluster on up to 96 XJs and MJs, along with addressing some other issues, do this:

Improving the Instrument Panel Ground
The ground point for the complete instrument cluster on your XJ or MJ is located up under the driver’s side dash. If you lay on your back and look up under there with a flashlight, without wearing a hat, you will see a black wire attached to a shiny piece of metal almost directly above the hood release ****. The screw will have either a ¼" or 5/16" head on it.
This ground point is responsible for handling the ground circuit for the following items: Dome lamps, Seatbelt and key warning, trans comfort switch, wiper switch, headlamp switch and delay module, fog lamp switch, cargo lamp switch, all instrument panel grounds and illumination, power windows and door locks, cruise control dump valve, and a few more things.
The problem is that where the ground point is located does not have a good contact with the chassis where the ground should be. The solution is simple.
Make up a jumper wire with #10 gauge wire about 10" long. On one end, crimp on a ¼" round wire terminal. On the other end, crimp on a 3/8" round wire terminal.
Remove the screw from the existing ground wire and attach the small terminal of your jumper so that the original wire and your new jumper share the same attaching point, one over the other.
Look above the driver’s side plastic kick panel just forward of the top of the hood release ****. You will see an 8mm stud there. Attach the large terminal end there with a washer and nut over it tightened securely.
**Special note for Comanche owners: Make your jumper wire 12" long and attach it on the driver’s side kick panel close to the fusebox on the 8mm stud.**

Do you guys have idea what this is, its by the guage cluster. Is on the right side of yhe cluster and inbetween that and the stereo. Cant upload a picture from mobile. Hope you guys know what i mean

 

I have always wondered the same thing. I know on my 88 and 89 cherokee there was a clock in it, but on my 96 the top portion has a light in it that indicates when the security locks are on. But still there is a lot of space left in there and I always wondered what the function of it is.

 

On my 89 Cherokee, it indicates which location you're transfer case is in

Its just for show, although some jeeps come with a clock inside. Depends on your model

 

In my XJ I have a clock there, but my son is using that plate to mount his light switches. They are mini toggle switches that will go to a relay for the four locations. Fog, Inner top, Outer top and one rear.

Yeah some have it . Mine though is nothing but plastic. Even if I wanted to I couldn't put a clock right there.
