Okay heres the deal, I picked this 1993 Jeep Cherokee up on a trade for a sound system. I wanted the jeep for a toy to replace my heavy chevy when I go out in the woods. But I also need it to be able to drive down the road legally. So therers the dilemma
When I turn the truck on, I see nothing on the dash. No gauges, no lights, no nothing. I dont know if the radio would work or not, because I didnt come with one and I havent put one in it yet. But Its my understanding that there are displays next to the gauge cluster that is supposed to light up as well, and that shows nothing.
My turn signals also do not work, I can turn my emergency flashers on, and they work perfectly fine, including the flasher lights in the dash. I dont know if this is a fuse, or if its a loose connection. I mean there is nothing displaying at all. no tach, no speedo, or any of the other smaller gauges.
I've checked the fuses, and all that are there are good. There are a few blank fuse positions, maybe its one of those?
Plus, for reference purposes, what is the display that lights up next to my radio called? Its not working either, but Id like to know what its called.
Please help with anything you can. thanks alot!
It is a 93' Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0l 5speed 4wd

Sounds like you have a few problems that could come from a number of places. You might be 'lucky' and just have to replace the bulbs behind the gauge cluster, etc., but probably not...still, not worth not checking. If the turn signals just don't work at all, and if your steering is loose or the wheel wobbles a lot (even in park) you might be looking at either a switch or wiring issue in the steering column (usually best to just replace the whole damn thing). Could also just be disconnected under the dash, but that might be too much to hope for. Do the signals on the outside of the car work, but not in your dash display? Either way, I hate elec. problems. Just remember to follow the 4 rules of electronics:
1- If it doesn't work, turn it on!
2- If it still doesn't work, plug it in! (check all your wiring harness plugs, etc)
3- If it still doesn't work, read the instructions (check repair guide/here)
4- If it still isn't working, take it to a mechanic.
Sorry couldn't be more helpful, will just need more specific info.

no the turn signals dont work on the outside either, but the flashers do?
the flashers work on the inside and outside of the vehicle. the turn signals do nothing.
the steering column is solid, there is no wobble or anything. and from the little bit that i did get to drive it home, it was actually a smoother ride than my DD.
if the flashers are able to be turned on, then does that mean the whole column is plugged in? the horn doesnt work either, so if it werent for the flashers, i would say that the whole column was unplugged.
where is the plug that goes to the turn signals etc on the column?
