Hey everyone

I bought my 1999 XJ this spring - I am very happy with my new dd and plan on having some fun with it.

Today I started her up and the gauges are flat - no gas, speedometer, or tach, and the air bag light is on. Everything else works and no fuses are out.
Couldn't find an answer with a search.
Any help is appreciated.

 

Check that the radio and wipers work... if not, suspect the ignition switch.

Does the odometer eventually display "no bus"???... if so, it could be a databus communication failure.

Radio works, wipers work, so I thumped the top of the dash a couple times and the gauges came to life. Looks like cleaning the contacts is on the to-do list. ThaNKS much!

 

is the ABS light on? every once and a while mine will come on and NO guages will work. A light tap on the top of the dash fix's it every time.....Mine is related to a lose plug on the back of the cluster im sure.............

 

my gas and speedo gauge work but my battery coolant and oil pressure gauges do not work its electronic digital or w.e. so idk any help please id appreiciate it

 

Sorry hi jack, the thread, but my dash doesn't work at all and it reads no bus, so if that is a data base communication failure, how do I fix that? Thanks

If you don't start a new thread about your problem, any [if at any] help posted to this thread will get lost. Either start a new thread or Google search "Jeep Cherokee Gauges Dead, NO BUS, Jeep Forum" and see what you can find. This is a common problem.
