DAPO
I got my XJ used in '05 from a PO who had white dogs..
My rear cargo area still looks the same as when I got it...no matter how much I vacuum it, etc.
I just covered it with a large piece of cardboard so I don't have to look at it...it also protects the carpet from my toolbox, grungy junkyard parts, and other stuff I haul around.

Yeah, my dad has this huge chunk of 1/8" diamond plate just laying in his back yard, he said I could have it. So I'm probably gonna take him up on that and pull the carpet, bedline the floorboards and make a diamond plate floorboard for the cargo area. Just gotta get off my lazy ***** and do it!! Lol...

The DAPOs of our 91 also had white dogs.
We ran to Dollar Store and got lint/pet hair removers.
You know the sticky-side-out masking tape rollers.
Went to town on the interior. 3hrs later we had removed enough hair to make an oriental rug. Forgot to mention, SHE has the maroon interior on her 91.
Ran thru around 10 of those removers. MAN, are my arms still tired.
The 91 was bought cheap off of eBay because it had a broken hinge.
The usual, driver's side upper hinge weld crack.
DAPO had it rewelded. IF you want to call it that.
The lifted the door back into place and tried stick-welding it.
From factory there is sealer around the entire area. They welded thru the sealer which made for some of the crappiest welds I have ever seen.
Two days later it broke again, day after that it went on eBay.
MY 94 is a different story. DAPO spend $$$ and was told by his mechanic that the rattling was connecting rods and the oil leak was a rear main. Cost for repair was over $900...get rid of it.
Bought it off of craigslist for $1500.
Replaced the failing catalytic converter...there went the rattling.
Replaced leaky o-ring in oil filter adapter...there went oil leak.
The $900+ repair dropped to little over $100.
DAPOs go figure.

I really don't have any... I bought the 98 new and the 92 I got off of another mechanic I know. I do know that the power moonroof I have in the 98 (which if anyone looked at them, they are totally aftermarket, dealer install I think) is about the worst g-damned thing someone ever thought of...
I still haven't been able to get rid of those damned dog hairs from the PO, seems like no matter how much you vaccuum they never come out. They took reasonably good care of her mechanically though, I still have some gasket replacement jobs in my near future nonetheless. Damn PO's, they always leave us with so much stuff to work on, good thing we love workin on these aerodynamically challenged bricks that we love so much.
FYI, duct tape is much stickier than masking tape, the usual tape used like this.

This settles it, my Jeep's PO just became a DAPO
1. DAPO bought the wrong terminal for the battery, so because it was loose he just pounded a dry wall nail into it to make it tight.
And now the qualifier that i am bitter about now
2. he either tried it himself or took it to a bad shop to get the clutch worked on. i had to replace a throw out bearing. i didnt want to attempt this on my own do to the lack of knowledge, time, and tools. when i went to pick it up today i asked how it was. the dude said it wasnt too bad, exept the fact that the bell housing was MISSING 8 BOLTS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE!!!!
the bell housing had atleast an inch gap between itself and the motor. when i got in it after work and turned on the headlights i noticed something new. my 4wd selector lit up! this is cool! the shmuck that worked on it before didnt do the little things like hook the harness back up or replace 8 bolts on the bell housing.
What are your DAPO stories?

My DAPO screwed up rear axle bearings, overloaded rear springs, busted shocks, destroyed rear axle jounce bumpers, spilled house paint on the cargo area, wrecked the roof rack bars (hauling ladders???), wrecked the left front, broke hinges on right front door, never checked fluids ...
Well, some days I think I shoulda passed on the deal, but others, when I pass up wannabe 4X4 SUVs (think Caddys, Escalades, Explorers, etc.) in a slick, slushy 6 inch snow that's only making me "think" about 4hi, I start smiling . . . .

i paid 600 for my 89 4x2 lerado was told it needed a new radiator. loosing fluid and over heating so i lokked at it and filled cooling system and started ran good and said you have a deal, i replaced the puke tank cap and she was good as new ( $7 fix napa ). not to mention the pieces of broken glass all over and dog hair from four dogs allways riding in the heep (i couldnt see the carpet) and the inch of grit and grime all over the console and dash. jeep still smells like dog and the hair is slowly coming out and well still working on the s*** all over the consol and doors. She runs like a raped ape though so im happy
MY PO set his Jeep on fire.
He put a too-tall battery in it with no hold-down. The battery positive-terminal shorted to the hood-release rod. It superheated and fused the hood cable, then the sparks exploded the battery and spread burning plastic all over everything.
The fire department arrived and the hood release didn't work (of course it was now all welded together). They used their prybars between the fender and hood on the passenger side to get the extinguisher nozzle in there. It caved-in the fender and bent the hood.
So here we are:
Jeep purchase prices
$125 Burned-up XJ 2-door 2wd (cost of title and tow-bill)
$105 First trip to Pull-a-Part (right rear window, hood release parts, coolant tank, fan, electric fan, battery tray, right front wiring, steering column)
$ 50 Second trip to Pull-a-Part (alternator, compressor, low and high-side A/C hoses, right hood striker, door check)
$200 Set of 16" Wrangler wheels and tires from Craigslist
$100 New Denso starter
Total so far = $580 for a running, driving XJ with cold air.
The stereo is next... it might just be transferred from my Toyota if I am still selling the Toyota.

Well on the new XJ none of the interior lights work,it starts with a push button hotwired to the starter cause the ignition switch is broken, about 300 claps on the exhaust, 4-wheel drive shifter cable is to short or something cause it will not go all the way forward so it only goes in 4HI then N but not 4LO, plus other things just missing here & there I'm going to spend a month just getting it normal
