Default DAPO

This settles it, my Jeep's PO just became a DAPO
1. DAPO bought the wrong terminal for the battery, so because it was loose he just pounded a dry wall nail into it to make it tight.

And now the qualifier that i am bitter about now

2. he either tried it himself or took it to a bad shop to get the clutch worked on. i had to replace a throw out bearing. i didnt want to attempt this on my own do to the lack of knowledge, time, and tools. when i went to pick it up today i asked how it was. the dude said it wasnt too bad, exept the fact that the bell housing was MISSING 8 BOLTS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE!!!! the bell housing had atleast an inch gap between itself and the motor. when i got in it after work and turned on the headlights i noticed something new. my 4wd selector lit up! this is cool! the shmuck that worked on it before didnt do the little things like hook the harness back up or replace 8 bolts on the bell housing.

What are your DAPO stories?

Wow, I'm surprised the thing drove without making terrible noises.

Well, that is insane. Thankfully, my DAPO didn't try half that stuff. She just neglected every fluid, let her kids and dogs **** and mess up the interior while she smoked like her lungs were made of iron. I had to clean the windows 5 times to get the tar and film off of them. She also wired up her stereo wrong, ran the power to her amp out the hood, over the fender, and down the passenger side door because she couldn't figure out how to get through the fire wall.

Unfortunately, I've only had the rig for 3 weeks so I'm still waiting to find the real goodies. Yikes. I hope you found everything.

I got mine for four hundred. The previous owner had like 3 other cars and I dont think he owned this truck very long at all. Whoever owned it before him kept it pretty well maintained from what the receipts in the glove box suggest.

How dumb can you call a guy who bought an xj before you did? lol

Mine wasnt so bad except for the usual neglected fluids and odds and ends. They had tightened the fan belt so tight (wrong size belt) that the tension linkage was bent. Left two bolts out of the power steering pump in the process. Im still vacuuming white dog hairs out from under seats and pulling them out of the passenger seat upholstery. Good luck to us all..

that is what the guy at the clutch shop said. he could have exagerated alittle, but still, a few bolts left out of something like that is rediculous

My interior was so bad that I pulled everything...everything. It was a great opportunity to lay down the bedliner. I took the carpet and seats to the car wash and pressure washed them with soapy water after letting them set briefly in non-diluted simple green. The spray ran black for a long time, but the stains almost completely vanished and the dog hair is all but extinct. If you were to look in it now, you'd never know where it started. I got physically ill and started dry heaving after driving the Jeep 2 hours home. Nasty. But now, it looks spotless!

I still haven't been able to get rid of those damned dog hairs from the PO, seems like no matter how much you vaccuum they never come out. They took reasonably good care of her mechanically though, I still have some gasket replacement jobs in my near future nonetheless. Damn PO's, they always leave us with so much stuff to work on, good thing we love workin on these aerodynamically challenged bricks that we love so much.
