Dana 60's ?!?
A guy I know here in PA has a JY in Georga. He either has a pair of Dana 44's or Dana 60's for me from an early Waggy. He's not sure yet what they are, finds out tomorrow. Question is, how much of a PITA is it going to be changing over from turdy 5 rear and turdy front. I know about the shock/spring mounting locations being different and it needing coil percjes in the front, but is there anything more i am going to have to worry about. All I can think of is lug pattern and axle width difference. what about brakes. I have ABS, Is this swap going to cut that system for me? What about brake lines, are they different? I have steel braded lines now. Any input or comments are appreciated. I will update as soon as i know what I might be getting. Please don't ask about the price, I'm getting a special deal and it wouldn't be fair to divulge that info. I mean no offence to my fellow XJ'ers.
Oh, and im hoping for the 60's but will settle for the 44's. Anything is better than what I have.
Also, when I get the definate go ahead on the swap, I will have a Brand New In Box, powertrax lockrite for the Dana 35 if anyone wants it. $300 O.B.O. I will make a seperate thread in the For Sale section when that time comes.

They will be 44s and the width difference is about an inch. ABS will be gone but it's easily bypassed. Make sure the front is a driver drop cause they came with both and also some have a CAD. Brake lines should be fine.

Well the guy finally got back to me. They are D44's and its driver side drop, no CAD, and there from a 70's waggy. I'm hoping (sp) that I'm getting what I want.

They're probably from a late 70's. I think the early 70's had the AMC 20 rear. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Update!!! I got them! they are not D44 front and back. Its a LP D44 front and an AMC 20 out back. they have 3.15:1 gears and 6x5.5 lug pattern. I'm going to rebuild, truss, add the proper pearches, rear lockright, front OX, and make custom diff guards/ Skids. I need new wheels and I'm going with 33 or 35" swamper TSL's. Thoughts???

So after getting the outer cases and tubes cleaned up, I cant find the BOM number on the D44. I have the numbers from the ratio plate and they suggest that its a 3.31:1 ratio, but the stamp on the AMC suggests that its 3.15:1 ratio. So I'm confused. Theres another number on the ratio plate above the ratio and tooth guide. It is 5359666. I'm not sure what thats for. I know how to read the ratio plate, it reads "3.31 43-13". To me that says that there 3.31:1 gear ratio and 43 teeth on the ring and 13 teeth on the pinion.
The D44 is low pinion and has disk brakes if that helps. Any info is appreciated.

You don't have to remove the carrier to put in one piece shafts. Wheel it and you'll find out why people put one piece shafts in them.

Pretty much anyone who sells aftermarket axles has them and I'm not 100% of it cause I ran Scout II 44s in my CJ but I'm told it's a simple bolt in.
