The 8.8 is actually a stronger axle than the XJ D44. Larger tubes, larger ring gear and pinion, higher spline count, and factory disk brakes. Lots of guys run 37's on the 8.8 with no problems. Just have to relocate spring perches, make sure to weld the tubes to the pumpkin, and use some spacers if you want the width to match. The 8.8 can be found all over the place for less than an XJ D44 and is a great upgrade.
