Ive done several regears but no dana 44's. Im an XJ guy but today Im working on a friends dana 44 in an 03 tj that was factory geared 3.73. I am replacing those with G2 brand 4.56 gears and a detroit trutrac. The pinion shim on the original gear was a .058. When I set the new gears up with the same pininon depth the contact pattern was on the top of the tooth barely touching. When I add pininon shims behind the inner race my drive pattern moves toward the toe and the coast gets closer to the heel. The pattern is still high and when I add it moves further away off the toe. If i subtract it climbs high off the top of the tooth. Any suggestions would be helpful. Backlash had little to no effect. Ive tried everything from .005 to .011 with no real change. Thanks for the help.
