Hello all! I'm new to Cherokeeforum (obviously) I bought a 92 Cherokee for $1100 with a 4" lift & 35k on a rebuilt I6.
Regardless my question is I have a Dana 35 Positrac Carrier, whats required to do a carrier swap? I did one a few years ago in a 74 Cutlass with a 455 (needed it bad)
If I remember right its about like..
"You can move the gear over to the posi carrier, then reinstall the carrier using the EXACT SAME SHIMS IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE they were on the open carrier onto the posi carrier. You DO NOT want to use the old shims from the posi carrier.
Gears have to be placed in three dimensions - the pinion depth and backlash are already set for you if you leave the pinion in place. Using the shims from the old open carrier will place the gear tooth pattern back in the exact same place when used on the posi carrier.
Does this sound about right? Use the bearing races correct for the posi unit I assume.
Thank You!
