Dana 35 help
I have a Dana 35 in a 96 Cherokee and need some re-assembly help. There appears to be a specific tool you have to have to adjust the clearance between the ring gear and pinion. I'm told it slides through the axle tube and acts like a spanner wrench, does anyone know where I can buy this tool and what the correct name is so people don't think I'm crazy when I try to find it. Any help would be great.

Sounds like you are talking about a Chrysler 8.25 .... not a Dana 35
The tool you need can be hand made. I used a 1 & 5/16 nut (if i remember right) welded to a socket. Then a L-O-N-G extension to reach the adjuster through the axletubes.
The D35 backlash is done via shimming on the outside of the carrier.
Not a slam -- but a suggestionn. If you don't know which axle you have and what terms to use, are you sure you can adjust your backlash properly ?

Could be talking about a case spreader which is used on dana axles but not necessary. Attaches to the holes on the sides of the carrier near the tubes and spreads it to help put the carrier in.

Anything is possible, but I doubt it. Esp that he said "spanner wrench" in his point.
A lot of people think you can adjust the 8.25 the way you would a Ford 9 or GM 14 bolt. In a sense, the operation is the same ... but the tool is completely different.
