Default Dana 30 swap

I have a 1992 XJ with the 4.0. I have the dana 30 front axle without the Central Axle Disconnect on the passenger side. What I want to do it swap in a dana 30 from an older xj that DOSE have the axle disconnect so that I can put a locker in it and still retain street driveability. So what I want to know is, Do i need to take anything off the donor vehicle to make the vacuum lines on the disconnect work, or does my xj have a vacuum source that will work to operate it. Im aware that the disconnect automatically turns on or off when you put your jeep in or out of four wheel drive but what I want to do is wire it to a switch so that I can manually operate it. Thanks for the help!

No need to swap the axle just because your putting locker in it. Get a selectable (ARB or an Eaton E-Locker) and you'll have an open diff when the locker is not engaged.

FWIW,
CAD axles are weakerthan non-disoc axles.

You will need selectable hubs in the front if you weld it. It won't matter if you have the front end engaged or not the axle will still bind when you have good traction if it is welded. Selectable hub conversions are more expensive than real lockers.

Can you explan how it will bind? If the axle shaft is in 3 seperate pices with the dana 30 with the axle disconnect... the passanger side shuld spin free of the drivers side when the "cad" is disengaged even if the spider gears are welded, right?

Bah! I hated the vacuum assisted front end, only engaging after you got stuck. I replaced mine with with the updated non-vacuum assisted from a '95, so that when I put it in 4WD, I KNOW ITS IN 4WD, and not PT 4WD.

Should of found me earlier, I wouldve gave you my old axle. I just ended up giving it to a friend, that took it to the junk yard, because no one wanted an older vac-assist front end.

Check Craigs List. Thats where I posted mine. And someone else may be posting the same.
