So i own a 90 XJ. It had a stock gear ratio of 3.55 front and rear. I recently put 4.11 geared front and rear diffs under the vehicle from an 86 XJ. I am suspecting this front diff that I'm running now has a bad hub bearing. I've looked on line and the 86 and 90 part numbers for the hub bearings are different but the way they bolt up is all the same. Is there anything that could interfere with me pulling the 86 hub bearing assemblies and swapping them for the known good ones off the 90 front diff?

don't know too much on the pre 87 xj's, but if the 90 hubs won't work (think brake calipers and rotors...hat heights), then you might just have to swap the knuckles and possibly calipers and use the rotors from the 90.

i had to do all that when i swapped in my 89 axle in my 90. but it all works fine.

Lookin at the Quadratrac Catalog it shows the following as far as the 90 vs the 86

84-89 Hub Assembly(tapered bearing design) p/n 52417.03

90-98 Hub Assembly(ball bearing design) p/n 52417.04

Wondering if maybe the only difference is in the bearing design...
