Default Dana 30 Good or Bad?

I just purchased my Cherokee and have discovered I have a 231 J transfer case and a Dana 30 front axle. I assume, at the risk of making an *** out of myself, that the rear axle is a Dana 30 as well. Is the Dana 30 something I should make a priority to replace? Thanks for your advice.

The front is a D30, and HP in 98 (pretty strong up t0 35" tires)

The 98 came with a D35 (weak and has ABS) or a C8.25 (29 spline, and pretty strong, No ABS)

Dana 30 is a good solid axle. Front

Dana35 in rear is not even a good boat anchor

It tells you that your axles can handle 35s fairly easily, with light to moderate wheeling.

Your 8.25 has an OK aftermarket selection, but not as good as some others.

The Dana 30 is ok... I would recommend new ball joints, axle shaft u-joints and wheel bearings just to b safe.. And get a 8.8 rear axle outta a ford explorer make an old man locker and you'll be able to wheel all day w out having to worry bout breaking

An old man locker is when you weld the spider gears together

In stock trim of the axles, you will be fine up to 35's. Stay off the skinny pedal, use some common sense and you will have no issues. Worst that has happen to me on 35's and 33's with stock axles is having to change ujoints, stupid winter 4wd drifting

Default Dana 30 and 35

1989 xj 4 door 6.5 RC lift.

I am running a Dana 30 front with Spartan, Dana 35 rear with Spartan with the larger after market axles. 33 tires 27 spline both, 4:11 gears front and rear. Disk front Drum rear. I have not had any issues. It is not my DD so we only drive off road, for us no need to dump the difs and change. I did not think that the re-gear was bad on the 35, the 30 was a pain to get apart.
