Default Dana 30 balljoints

Replacing balljoints on my rig today. Never done it before but everything is going pretty good. One problem.... How do you get the snapring on the bottom joint? The joint is as high as it can physically go and it's not high enough to get the snapring on. In disassembly, the last guy did not install the snapring. Its gotta be a vital part and I want it done right.

No Snap ring. Thats why you never had one to begin with.
Some new ball joints come with extra parts that are not needed. So you will be fine.

So the bottom joint moves or it's just the hammered in fit?

it's just pressed in. I'm sure you noticed it's very tight.

The D30 axle uses no snap ring on balljoints.

Hmmm the one I pulled out came out with a carpenters hammer and it was flopping around in there. The new one went in a little harder. Hopefully it holds up.

That's amazing you pounded them out. I broke a craftsman breaker bar on a ball joint press when I did mine.

They were replaced about a year and a half ago I guess. I'm hard on equipment. Buddy of mine owned the axles prior.

WOW! I used a press an 18" breaker with a 12" extension, I'm 220 took everything I had and I was actually sore the next day. But then I pressed 'em through without removing the rubber boots first (see "whats the dumbest thing you ever did to yer xj?" thats me, I'm not proud)

If you got them in and out so easy you have a problem! They should be much tighter than that. I would not drive it until you check it out.
