Like about 15% of the XJ's between 87 and 90 had them.

If you are from NY I know ehre you might be able to buy one, somebody has one for sale near me for like 200, dont think it sold yet.

'86-'87 Cherokee-Waggy, '86-'90 Comanche... various ratios, depending on engine/trans, tow package... Comanche's were spring-under...

Just pulled out out of a 86 2 door forest service vehicle. A base model without even a tow package.

I dont know much about gearing and diffs, but is having a dana44 rear end like having a dana35 swapped out with 4:10 gears?

yea my XJ dana 44 only ran me $90, so i was happy with the buy, plus it has a LSD +++BONUS+++

but no a dana 44 is better than a Dana 35, gearing aside (any axle can have better gears) dana 44 has thicker axle tubes.. plus the shafts aren't c-clip like the 35, so when your dana 35 c-clip breaks your axle walks out with the dana 44 there is a capture plate just outside the wheelbearing that keeps the axle in.. i'm pretty sure the d44 has a better spline count over the d35 also
