Default D35 or D44

Which one? I currently have a D35 with a Detroit easy locker and 30 spline shafts. Is this as good or better than a stock D44 or 8.25 axle?

No. The D35 is a turd no matter what kind of parts you put on it. The D44 is hard to find so look for a 8.25 from a 99-01 XJ. It will have stronger axle shafts than the earlier 8.25s.

the 35 is pretty much good for a paper weight.

the 44 is good, but hard to find bolt in ready.

The 29 spline 8.25 is a great axle. thats what i'm running with 36" tires and never broken anything.

If you are looking for some axles, let me know. I've got a bolt in ready 29 spline 8.25 here and I've also got a set of D44's front and rear from a grand waggy thats for sale.

Personally, if you want to keep the D30 up front and have an easy bolt in for the rear, the 8.25 can't be beat.

Is the 8.25 disc brake or drum?

Drum Brakes on a 8.25. I got an Ford 8.8 that is going in the four door, it is stronger but needs alot more work to put in I would like a D60 rear and D44 front but money is what stops that. If you want a direct bolt in then you will be alot better going with what Winston427 & 99NCXJ said unless you are lucky and know were to get a D44.

I haven't found either one. I am going to keep my eye out though at the JY's for one. The jy here local had probably 5-6 XJ's the last time I was there. Going to go today possibly.

The 8.25 is a drum brake axle...but you can easily swap out the backing plates/rotors/calipers off of a ZJ D35. I was actually planning on doing this on mine sometime if i don't swap axles soon.

The 29 spline 8.25 i have i'll take 100.00 for it. (about 1/3 the cost of a 44 if you find one from an XJ.

the D44's from the grand waggy are 350.00 for both.

All of these axles are complete with brakes.

You can find this and more stuff here:

If you are located anywhere between Charlotte, NC and Kingsport, TN i'll deliver them for free on the 15th. If you are between Kingsport and Mountain City, TN i'll deliver on the 16th (morning)

Would you be willing to sell just the front D44? Also can I see pics of the D44's and this (polly gas tank with sending unit 20.00) I would come down and get like I said I have Family in Goldsboro so I would just stay a night with them and haul them back the next day.

Just keep the D35 till it breaks then get an 8.25 or something but since it's locked with beefy shafts just run it till it breaks. In the mean time find an 8.25 to have for when it breaks..

even with better shafts, the D35 housing flexes like a limp noodle under harsh power. You will end up stripping teeth, ect.

The tank with pump is sold. sorry, i need to update that.

Just for cost reference...here is an XJ D44 i found for sale. Check out that price!!!
