Quick question. My rear axle, I am trying to figure out what it is. Its a 95 XJ, and i couldnt find any dana emblems or anything like that. On the fornt tho it says dana on the cover, on the rear the only thing i can find is a chrysler emblem up near the yoke and a few wierd numbers. is this the 8.25?

they look very alike but 8.25 has 3 inch axle tubes

nope.

dana 35's switched to rubber plug somewhere between 88 and 91, so that's not a great way to determine.

 

Hmmmm. Never seen one on D35...but I'll take your word for it.

 

that's a dana 35 with the plug.


that is a chrysler 8.25. it is rounder, the dana 35 is more oval.

 

The shape is more accented on the D35

 

Guess I learned something tonight...time to call it a day! (Thanx.)

 

Easiest and most for sure way is to just look at the diff cover and if there is a flat bottom that hangs a little below it's the 8.25.

if you still cant tell call the dealership and give them the vin and they will tell you

 

If anyone has to resort to that, I'd advise them to have someone else work on their jeep
