Default cylinder head replacement preparation

Just need some advice on replacing the cylinder head. I'd like to "prep"the head for replacement before it gets here, but the jeep is outside in my driveway--so how far along can I go? can I leave the valve cover off? Can I take the head off? or should I just wait until the head arrives and do it all at once. Thanks

I've read some of your posts regarding a new head. I'm glad you decided to do it.

You can take the head completely off while waiting for your new one to arrive. You need to cover the exposed bottom end of the engine with something. Since yours is outside in a driveway, I would use plastic wrap, like this video at about the 10 minute mark:

Here's a thread started by me that has some people chime in with helpful tips:

I'm finishing this project this weekend. It's not difficult unless you are disorganized. Label and take pictures. The most difficult thing is the manifold. Here's where I'm at so far:

Thanks. I just ordered a new head from Clearwater and head gasket set and bolts from rock Auto. Not sure how long shipping is going to take. If it's here by next Friday I should have it in next weekend. Not driving the jeep until I get it fixed.
