jeep died confused symptoms
So for a while I would be driving My 2000 xj 4.0 and the tacometer would drop and my car would shut off, I would go to nuetral and start it back up. then I went to auto zone and the guy giggled some **** and then that stoppped happening but the voltage gauge would drop with in secounds and up to a minute after starting. That also happened when the jeep just died randomly. But today I was driving and all my gauges went nut and then my jeep just got slower and slower and when i pulled to the side of the road it truned off. I tried to start it but it doesnt turn over it just clicks. My radio and ac fan wouldn't work and my wipers were slow. I got my mom to tow me home with our truck and i check the battery and it was at 9v Its a new battery its barely one year old. I checked the connections and nothing was corroded.

The battery is not holding a charge for whatever reason, or the alternator is not charging it for whatever reason. You want atleast 12v with the engine off, and atleast 14v with the engine running. Charge the battery and check it with a multimeter. If it reads 12v, it should start. Wouldnt hurt to remove and clean your grounds at some point also, if anything to remove them from the list of possibilites.

not to be a ****- but.... 12v is a dying battery... 2.1v per cell x 6 cells... a resting group 24 lead acid or AGM battery should hold 12.6vdc... 13.5 going into it to maintain 12.6 while in use, 13.7~14.5 to charge it...
how long you reckon that battery sat on the shelf afore you dun went and bought it?
here be sum advice from an old fart who dun went around the block (lower east side, chicago, strapped y'all) a few times blind- but nearing the end purty dangerous: always buy car batteries from wally world, and put the receipt in a ziplock underneath it... two years return, no questions asked.... set a reminder and swap batteries every two...
hey, i got nuthin' for 'em... they supply themselves from china.. not the good ol' US of A, and I aim to make 'em pay fer dat.

I check my battery it was at 9v, I went and got a new alternator and put it in. I had to get a jump but my jeep has been going good and the voltage gauge doesnt drop any more. I tested the battery while running and it was reading just above 14.0 V. Thanks for the help guys!
