Exclamation Cylinder Head

Need to replace my cylinder head and came across a reman'd 94 cylinder head but I have 98. Will the 94 work on my 98?

The 7120 head differs from the 0630 head ('96-'99) in that the head doesn't have receiver holes in it for the locator dowls on your '98 block. And the intake ports are different than the 0630 head.

Look for a '96-'99 0630 head.

What other heads would work with that block?

Since we are on the topic of cylinder head fitments, would a 98 head fit on my 01?

The 98 0630 head is not a direct fit for the 01 Cherokee. The 00/01 cherokee head is an 0331 and is set up to work with coil packs instead of a distributor and wires.

There is a head that people swap onto the 00-01s to get rid of the garbage cracking 0331 head. What is that?

The factory revision is the 0331 tupy head. There are also a couple of aftermarket manufacturers, but I don't remember the company names off hand.

The coil packs and plug boots are on a rail that has 4 bolts attaching it to the 0331 head. You would have to mod the 98 head to secure that rail. A used 0331 "tupy" head, off of a newer 4.0 L wrangler or GC, would be comparably priced to a used 0630 head, but without any fab work required. The aftermarket head above has a reasonable price for new if you would rather go that route. BTW "tupy" is stamped on the head, so there should be no question as to whether or not it's the right one.

I already have a 0630 head from a 98 sitting in my shop and I thought I might use it. I work at a machine shop, so if it require me to drill and tap holes, it won't be any problem.

But if it's more work than necessary then I may be willing to look for a tupy head. Would those from 02-04 WJ's bolt on?
