Would probably be a better idea to sell your 0630 and get TUPY 0331.

If I had a '00 or '01 XJ, there isn't a doubt in my military mind that I would put a 0630 head on it and do the Viper coil mod that Tayln did.

Check it out.

Just out of curiosity, have you verified your head is damaged? Are sure it's not just a blown head gasket? Most Late 2002 to 2004 GC's have the 0331 "tupy" head. Not sure about the wranglers. Remove the oil cap and shine a flashlight in the valve cover, "tupy" will be stamped right there and very easy to see.

I couldn't see any marking in there. The reason I asked because the PO said there's new engine in it at 115k miles cuz the original head cracked. I don't know if they just installed new head or replaced the whole engine. I shined a flashlight and saw absolutely no markings at all.

And yes it's a blown gasket, I just don't want to have any down time because my apartment complex doesn't allow non-running vehicles parked here. So I don't want to take the head off, send it to a machine shop and wait for them to verify if its cracked or warped then machine it. I prefer to have another head on hand so I can just do the job In one day.

I understand about the apt situation. Since you are unsure of exactly what the PO did at 115k, take a look on the drivers side of the head, just to the right of the oil cap, and see if it's stamped 0331. Pretty much the same place 0630 is stamped on your 98 head. Pull the valve cover and check for a crack between the 3 and 4 cylinder and have a look around for the tupy stamp. VC removal is fast and easy, plus it gives an unobstructed view. A good straight edge can be used to check if the head is warped. If its not warped and there is no crack install a new head gasket and go from there.

Picked up a 0331 tupy head from a junkyard yesterday, off a 04 WJ with 109k miles on it.

Oh it's defintely a 0331. Just plain one, and I am not gonna chance it. That's why I picked up another head.

Good job. Glad to hear you found that tupy head. Your repair will go much easier now. Report back with updates and let us know how it runs.
