The reason people get an SYE is so they can run a CV driveshaft.

U-joints are only made to run a certain angles and the dual cardon joint doubles that angle basically that's why we run them.

Yes, if you are doing a SYE you also need a CV drive shaft. You can get a used front drive shafts for as little as $20.

If you're going to spend the money on it skip the front shaft because they use a pretty thin wall tube and most driveline shops will build you a shaft for around $150-200 and it will be balanced and true. It will cost anywhere from $50-100 to have a front shortened, plus new u-joints and whatever it cost to begin with. You end up paying almost as much to rebuild an old one as to buy new.

With a 4.5" you could almost get away with a TC drop temporarily until you ca afford to get the SYE as well as a new rear shaft... That is going to be my plan, for as short a time as possible anyways...

Not exactly. Some people use a front drive shaft that has been shortened in the rear after installing a sye because the front has a telescoping sleeve in it which you need with the sye.

Exactly. I'm still running a stock front shaft with 7.5" of lift and even have full width axles.
