well in some states if you dont need to go through emissions )like in mass. if your pre-1995) you technically dont need a cat and if its obd-II you will get a cel cause the second 02 sensor makes sure the cat. is doing its job but if your state requires you having it keep it because catalytic converters are a touchy subject especially on this site
I honestly dont care what you do, if you cut the cat off its not gonna do anything, my 89 doesnt have an o2 sensor in the cat. If yours does then you might have a problem... Just a warning though, theyre gonna delete this thread: "OMG, THATS LIKE, SO ILLEGAL!!!" and all that crap.. Youll pry get a pm from a moderator too...

again...its against the law to remove emissions equipment that came on a vehicle. you may not have emissions testing in your state, but if you have a visual inspection they could notice its gone and you would be in a bit of trouble.

Here is the short version guys. I happen to know from personal experience that removing the CAT from a 91 XJ with the 4.0 motor will NOT cause it to throw any CEL codes...nor will it mess up the MPG. It is evidently against he law to remove it. I hope this answered your question and will prevent this thread from getting out ofhand andcausing meto delete it.

We dont have emissions checks in Michigan either, but I still have the cat on my 89. Fifteen horsepower isnt a whole lot to be screwing with your emissions for...
