Newbie here. I just bought a 2001 Cherokee Sport that is in awesome condition but with 170,000 miles. Drove it 3 hours home and it drives and runs great. The ONLY thing that doesn't work is the cruise.
The airbag light works and only comes on at startup. The A/C vents work fine as well as the horn. Is there a test to see what the problem is? Any input welcome.

You have to be more specific. What about the cruise control doesn't work. Does the light come on?

 

The dash light does not come on, the cruise does not set, nothing happens when you push the cruise button.

 

Find the fuse and see if its blown.

 

On my 96 the button contacts had become dirty-dusty. I blasted them with compressed air and now my cruz works. I learned that in a forum.
Give the whole system a look over. It is vacuum operated.
From the throttle body the cruise connects with a cable, make sure that cable is connected then follow the cable to the cruise control body. It has a vacuum line connected make sure it is connected and test for vacuum.
If this all fails then it could be in the brake pedal switch which also operates the brake lights. Or if the brake pedal does not release off the brake switch.
It's usually something simple when it comes to the cruise.
