I need to replace the insulator on the front hanger on my 96 XJ. Problem is I can't find a replacement anywhere. I've got a part number ( 52058884) but it seems it's discontinued and I can't find one. What are my options here? Can I get the one with the half moon shape and drill it out? Or is there a such thing as insulator material I can get and just cut out my own? I guess the other option would be to add a new hanger but I don't know how to go about doing that. Nothing above to hook to.

The half moon insultor cannot be adapted.

The rubber block you're looking for doesn't exist.

I can't even find blank rubber stock to make my own.

The only option is to buy the whole thing from the dealer (Big Bux), if they still have them.

I have been working on sleeving the rubber insulator but can't find a suitable bushing.

I bought a used one from a roll-over '98 XJ that had about 109,000 miles on it. Derusted and painted the metal. The hole in the insulator is a little oblong but acceptable. My installed insulator looks like a egg and the pipe sets on top of the crossmember - unacceptable!

 

What is it made out of. I hav e found blocks of vulcanized rubber for a reasonable amount. Just don't know if that would actually work and have any kind of longevity. Here is something like what I'm looking into. I think I would have to find something thicker. The existing block is 1 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 2 1/4".

Ok thanks. I'll see what I can come up with. I found a couple places that would make custom shapes but I bet that would be pricey even though it is just a rectangle. I'll probably try to find a block that's a little big and cut it down which would present a whole other challenge. Blocks of vulcanized rubber are not easy to cut. I also found a place that sells poly urethane blocks. Like what bushings are made of. Wonder which would work better?

That may work.

The best I can figure out is that the hole needs to be 15 MM ('99 XJ). You should measure your support rod (difficult to do) to verify the dimension.

 

Is it possible to adapt a rear sway bar bushing? They look about the same?
