i need some help
why is my speedometer hoping up and down crazy while im driving
is it my wheel speed sensor or is it my gauge cluster

 

Sounds like your speedo sensor is going out. This happened to me. What transfer case do you have? On my 96 I have the np231J and my speedo sensor is plugged in the output (see below). I replaced it and all is well

 

where did you get yours from im on autozones website and they a
vehicle speed sensor and a
transmission speed sensor and they both look the same

 

Don't buy sensors from autozone. I got mine from summitracing.com. Also try rockauto.com. But before you buy something, make sure you buy the right one because there are a ton of different ones out there. So check your transfer case where mine is, it could be in the same spot. I've also heard of them being attached to the tranny, but I have no experience with that

Edit: and to answer your question, you want a vehicle speed sensor
