Use a punch and knock the rivets out or a drill bit first then punch them out. Use bolt and nut to re fasten the regulator to door.

I thought the same thing. Dumbest idea ever.

The pinch sleeve with the torx head holding the window is also annoying to remove.

that is much more commonplace than you'd think. They found it was a cheap / quicker way to install, and that aside from rust, it would last a long time. Then again, designers and engineers have the job of not only making and selling a popular model, but getting you back into the service bay as that is where all dealers make most of their money (ie: its not from selling the vehicle, but rather the service department).

I take it that you guys haven't worked a vehicle door much? But every car I have seen has the window regulator riveted on, Both domestic and imports.

Not too bad once you do the first one. Mud and windows don't mix so I've had to change a few of them. Easy after the first one.

All bmws, jaguars and Hondas I've worked on never had riveted regulators.

That's funny because I just worked on my brothers Jag and it was also riveted.

I guess you must be a rivet pro by now. Regardless, stupid design.

What's the big deal? Most Jeep DIYers probably go through their entire "careers" and never have to confront the dreaded rivet(s) and if they do, drilling out and replacing the rivet with a nut and bolt is not exactly rocket science.

I hate to brand anyone with the comparison but this sounds exactly like a Bimmerism.
