Cracked exhaust manifold?
My '87 has an exhaust leak and I have a feeling the exhaust manifold is cracked... it's pretty bad, especially when the engine's warmed up. Should I even bother trying to get another stock manifold to replace it with or should I go straight to a header? Will a stock manifold just ultimately crack again, or is that issue avoidable somehow?
Also I was wondering if it is it possible to buy a '91+ H.O. header and have EGR provisions added so I can use it on my Renix engine? Or am I stuck buying a more expensive Renix-specific header?

I know nothing about your second question haha.
As far as the first one goes, another stock header will likely crack again. I would go aftermarket, they usually aren't that much more expensive anyway.

APN... Cheap aftermarket header, said to work good.
you can pry get a bung and tube put in for the EGR.
But, 5-90 has proved with emissions testing that the EGR is more harm than good. (numbers went down after removal)
BUT, if you plan on keeping this thread open, dont talk about that.

Well, I am definitely looking to keep it emissions-legal, just to make that clear. I have no intention of modifying anything that would cause it to pollute more, we have sniffer checks in my area and it needs to pass. Now, if I could delete the EGR and not have it affect the emissions, that I might look into... but only if it would be relatively easy to do, I am brand new to Jeeps.
As far as I know the only thing different about the '91+ headers is that they don't have an EGR provision, right? The APN is about $100-120 cheaper than a Renix header, so that is why I'm asking. Of course I'd have to see what an exhaust shop would want to add the EGR bung, hopefully it wouldn't be too much...

shouldnt cost too much. You can buy the tube from teamcherokee.com
All the shop has to do is drill a hole and weld in a bung. I doubt it would be that expensive (Im thinking 50 at the most, Its like a 10min job)

Cool, that's what I was thinking. If it's so easy why don't more people do this? Or do they? So few Renix headers compared to H.O. options, but there are lots of Renix Jeeps out there...
