Hi all! I'm new here and I need me some help with my xj woes...

I have a '95 XJ 4.0L that needs a new CPS. I recently bought a second-hand CPS ('cause I'm too poor to buy one new) which came from a '98 XJ. I foolishly bought the part in haste, as I just want this beast back on the road. I was dismayed when I got it to find that the connector on the '98 CPS is different to the '95 one. It has 3 flat horizontal pins as opposed to the 3 round pins of the '95 CPS.

My question is, are they two completely different CPS's (and did I just waste my money), or can I splice the connector of my '95 CPS on to the newer one?

There are several different types of CPS connectors on the XJ.

Best bet is to cut both ends and hard wire it, or get one that matches your year.

 

be aware that there are 2 differences high altitude and emissions types, different color harness differentiates the two.
