Default Courtesy lights not working with hatch open.

Okay so here is the problem the courtesy lights only come on when you open a door, not when you open the hatch. I have no clue where to start to pin point what the problem is ( I do own a digital volt meter, but I do not know what wires to check).

I also thought that at first. But then a cherokee came into my work and was the same year as mine, the lights came on when you opened the hatch. I thought maybe it was just that one of the doors was still open but I went around and made sure they were all closed and the lights were still on with the hatch open.

I have a 2001 so it may be different than you guys, but basically you just push the light in the rear to make it turn on with the trunk open. Push it again and it will turn only turn on with the passenger doors open.

mine stopped working a few weeks ago but I didn't want to tear into things to fix it and now I'm happy I didn't because this just fixed it (I must have hit it with it with something when loading stuff) and I would have mad if i tore everything up and it was a easy fix

I have the same problem but the button on mine doesn't move. I've thought about changing out the whole light.

Okay I went out and pushed up on the light, and it clicked but it still didn't work. So I am guessing there probably is a wiring problem?
