Default A couple of questions....

Will a bad heater control valve cause overheating? Also what would cause it? I just replaced a bad radiator drain **** and now my heater control valve is missing the elbow on the top. Basically what I need to know is, is there anything else that would have caused the overheating? Radiator flush is going to be done before I put it back on the road.

Your heater control valve not working would not cause overheating but, if your heater control valve is actually missing pieces common since tells me it is leaking, in that case it would cause overheating. If you meant something else please decribe in more detail.

I had a consistent problem with the Jeep running hot that no one could figure out, then I found the drain plug problem, I had no fluid. Had to put water/coolant in every trip. My radiator drain plug was broken, so I replaced it, let it set, drove around for a while and was coming up a good grade on 55mph highway when the top of the heater control valve failed (the elbow exploded). I was thinking, I'm probably wrong, that if the valve was stuck it wouldn't let pressure out so it took the easiest route, breaking the plastic.

Well it's been a while and I still haven't fixed this problem. I'm hoping this isn't a dealer only part, because I can't find it at local auto parts stores. Any ideas?
