Right check the electric fan. Maybe disconnect it temporarily and see. Just watch your coolant temps because that electric fan moves a lot of air.

I will keep an eye on the E fan. But when it happens the noise and vibration are so loud you can feel it just by touching the dash. Could that little efan make that kind of racket?

Easy way to find out. Turn the AC on, which turns the e-fan on, and watch it.......

Do this! ...are you running the A/C when it happens?

I'd take the belt off and spin each of the pulleys by hand a bit and see if there's any play or if they roll smooth or not. If you find one clunking around, there's your culprit.

I don't ever use the AC. I'll probably just take the belt off and see if I can locate the issue

It's not that tough to use our suggestions and just get it handled. Any further time spent on the computer will not find the issue. Agreed?

Turning the AC on is a diagnostic tool at this point to determine if the e-fan may be the culprit.......

Turn the AC on for a good 15 minutes while rolling down the highway no problems

OK. Go to the belt removal and pulley spinning stuff then.

simply using your windshield defrost setting will turn on your a/c compressor.

maybe your a/c compressor bearing is shot.

Yep. Just make sure your temp gauge (if accurate) doesn't get much past 210. Don't use the a/c.

The e-fan blew up when it was running. That means the Jeep thought it should be running. It helps out when you're idling in traffic, after you shut it off and heat soak takes effect and you start it back up, when you're A/C is on, or when your fan clutch is weak. Personally I would not run without it unless I lived somewhere it was never more than 75F. In Knoxville you've got 90's in the summer and it ain't like 40 never backs up.

So. The answer is yes. I've run it hard on a family staycation, privy a hunted miles a day - idling in traffic etc and it stays COOL. Right at 200ish beer more than 210. Brand new mechanical fan clutch may be contributing to normal temps as I thought that was prob before e fan blew up.
