Default could my cat be bad?

could a bad cat be the cause of my jeep not wanting to start?
It idles a tad rough and the check engine light comes on occasionally but usually goes off.
I smell sort of a funny smell when I turn off the vehicle as well. It more of a burning smell, I know its nothing in my bay, and other than that my jeep runs great and I have never had a problem with it

Its a 99 cherokee with the I6 only has 100k on it..only symptoms is that it is hard to start, gotta crank it once, then it always starts on the second try. Sometimes on the first. It idles like it has a slight miss when the check engine light is on..otherwise Its pretty smooth
I just did cap, rotor, plugs(gapped correctly), and wires. I also have a set of neon injectors that I was going to try. I was going to try and throw in a new O2 sensor to see if that made a difference.
Along the lines of the 02 sensor....is any one brand better than the other or all they pretty much the same thing?

Before you throw a sensor at it swing into a parts store and have the code read. It will give you a starting point. Be aware that if it throws an o2 sensor code, it doesn't always mean the sensor is bad. The sensor could be GOOD and detecting a bad catalyst.

well I had an issue with another vehicle and it was similar to this and it ended up being the cat, I was just inquiring as to the possibilities it may be.
I actually had the code ran today, the only one that popped up was a misfire on cyl 1

I would look toward curing that misfire, a bad cat would most likely have showed up in the code. Check that cylinder for the typical things that cause a misfire - fuel and spark. If fuel and spark are ok look at compression. And pray.

spark is good, I know that, double checked that with the plugs and wires. Its not all the time, its pretty intermittent, maybe I should throw those injectors in and see if that makes a difference

Swap the #1 injector with one of the other 5 see if it moves to another cylinder.
