Same engine as what? The original that came with the car? Chances are, if it hasn't been swapped out for another engine of the same size due to irreconcilable problems, then it's probably the same.

I have never personally seen somebody swap out their original engine for something other than a V8, but that's overkill in an XJ.

Also, it would help to have your year, but this will help you: http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/VIN/jeep.html

EDIT: Sorry, my bad. I didn't see you did mention the year. So, your engine code should be the 8th digit.

The engines were the same all throughout the years of the XJ. Only difference was minor things like intake, head, and the motor mounts.

None of which would stop you from doing the swap.

And I wouldnt call a V8 overkill, its overkill if you're on 35s yeah, but on 44s?? that im not sure.

To be honest though, I'd keep the 4L even if I was on 54s... It would be stroked and supercharged but I'd keep it. I just like to stay as true to the Jeep as possible.

If I did switch to V8, it would be the 360.
