Very small particles could be held in suspension in the oil, especially if the engine had just been ran.
Yea, possibly. ^ All the ones I had with bad rods had the black kind if oil!

I did find this; http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...reference.html but no mention of how many microns there, (that I found)
