I have a 98 cherokee and wanted to know if it has the cooling system that needs to be burped. Also seen here somewhere about flushing the cooling system with white vinegar, has anyone tried this and how well does it work compared to the regular radiator flushing products?

both closed and open systems have to be burped if air pockets exist or else you will overheat insanely fast. and have a 98 so you have the open system unless po put a closed system in it... like po did to my 96
I haven't tried white vinegar or anything other than rad cleaner/flush in the entire loop but I have put Drano and or CLR in the heater core before. If you do the heater core with either aforementioned be prepared to see the ugliest stuff come out the hoses...black brown yellowish its nasty and smells like ****.

Filled our '98 to the top of the rad, started it up (rad cap off), let it idle, coolant level will drop instantly, slowly fill the rad back to the top while it idles. When the t-stat opens, air and coolant will burp out the rad, put the NEW rad cap on and fill the overflow bottle 1/2 way between the marks. Test drive and check for leaks. Next day or so, with the ENGINE COLD, remove the rad cap and add coolant to the top, if needed. Check the overflow bottle.
