cooling system question
Hey guys I recently had an issue with my xj running hot. Therefore I figured it was time to start replacing things. New radiator, flowcooler waterpump, 180 degree tstat, new hoses, new fan clutch, new tstat housing. Now the problem is (if it is a actual problem) is the noise. What I mean by that is usually when you start up the jeep and initially accelerate it makes that noise where it sounds like a tractor trailer or dump truck (sorry best way I can think of explaining it lol) and after driving a short while it goes away. Now since i replaced everything, it makes that noise 95% of the time. what should i check that i possibly messed up? 99 XJ Sport 4.0L. Thanks!

I'm wondering if they gave u a thermal or non-thermal clutch? OE is a thermal clutch and should freewheel (quiet) after initial cold start/acceleration. Once it senses hot enough air off the rad, it should engage (roar) 'till things cool down, then it starts to freewheel again (quiet). A non-thermal clutch is basically engaged at low vehicle/motor speed and freewheels at high speed.
Do u have the receipt?.....get an exchange maybe?

Well i searched the part number and it does come back to be a "thermal fan clutch". But you seem pretty spot on with the symptom, when im cruising i dont hear it but when im low speed or starting from stop it roars. hmmmm

Might want to verify coolant temp with a point-n-shoot infrared temp gun aimed at the t-stat cover. Factory temp gauge can be questionable. If it is running a little warm, that could be why the clutch is engaged (roar).
