park with front end a bit higher than rear end, let it run with heater on and rad cap off, when it warms up to temp ,watch inside fillerneck and add fluid if it drops down it will start to spill over just keep it full, check temp now and then, let it run over the filler neck till no more air bubbles are seen ,make sure you put a clean catchpan under your rad to save fluid.

i parked front on sidewalk and let thermostat open up. i topped off resovor and i would give it throttle with cap off and watched a bunch of air bubbles come up and i kept the raidiator full the whole time. did this for like 10 mins and then no more air came out but a lot of air bubbles were coming out when i was giving throttle and letting off until the end then no more air. could this have been my problem?

yes if you have air pockets in the block they wont cool down thus making you overheat, as long as everything else is in order including your clutch on the mechanical fan you should be fine.
